Synopsis: 
Li Man Ho (Chow Yun Fat) lives in the United States because he is angry with his father being the leader of a triad – Hung Hing. Since his father is ambushed and killed. Li comes back to Hong Kong for the funeral. Furthermore, Li is recommended by the crowd to be the leader of the triad Hung Hing. Li rejects and passes the leadership to Shing (Charlie Chan). Yeung Kong (Roy Cheung) is very unhappy for this arrangement.Hung Hing is so messed up since Li’s father died. Meanwhile, other triads are targeting to capture the business of Hung Hing. Li eventually takes over Hung Hing and saves Yeung from a trap. Yeung appreciates and coordinates with Li to fight back.

黑社會洪興社老大被殺，其子李萬豪（周潤發　飾）回港為父奔喪。豪回港後被眾長輩推舉為接班人，豪表明立場推卻，地盤卻遭人破壞。豪大膽應對，成功平息風波，眾人對他充滿信心，豪一再強調不會加入黑社會。洪興少壯派頭目楊港（張耀揚　飾）不滿豪放過敵人，更與另一頭目謝勝（陳惠敏　飾）打架。勝後被別人暗殺，其好朋友傻強誤會港是兇手。其他黑社會亦想藉機剷除洪興，弄至滿城風雨，豪最後更找到殺父仇人……
