Synopsis:
“Mad Phoenix” is a gem of a talent in the world of Cantonese Opera in the 1920’s and 30’s. He is the thirteenth son of Old Master Kong in the late Qing Dynasty. When he is a child, he burns the curtain of his schoolmaster’s office to avenge a righteous cause. In his university days, he gives up his studies and goes to Shanghai in pursuit of the girl he loves. During the war, he is so disgusted with the way the shows for the servicemen are conducted that he beat up the troupe manager. He leads a miserable life after the war and is once sent to mental hospital for suspected insanity. He spends his last years alone and in destitution…

南海十三郎是清末江太史的十三公子，是本港二、三十年代著名的劇作家及作曲家。他為人行徑荒誕，一生充滿傳奇。他小時候，為了正義感把校長房間的蚊帳燒毀。大學時代，又為了追求心愛的女孩而放棄學業，遠赴上海。抗戰期間，他不齒勞軍劇團的表演過於鄙俗，而跟劇團的人大打出手。戰後，他生活潦倒，更因神智失常，而被送往精神病院。晚年四處流浪，最後鬱鬱而終……

他的行徑半瘋半癲，到底是受了壓力或刺激所致，抑或效阮籍避世而佯癲詐狂？眾說紛紜，更令他的一生添上神秘的色彩。
