Dean Shek's youngest son confirmed that his father died of cancer in September at the age of 72. Dean Shek was one of the founders of Cinema City, which dominated the Hong Kong film scene in the 1980s. The film company he founded had given chances to directors Tsui Hark and John Woo, and had popularized many famous actors, such as Leslie Cheung, Brigitte Lin, Maggie Cheung, Chow Yun Fat and Joey Wang.

石天小兒子證實父親於9月因癌症離世，終年72歲。石天是80年代叱吒香港影壇的新藝城影業創辦人之一, 他創辦的電影公司培養了導演徐克和吳宇森, 捧红不少著名演員, 例如張國榮、林青霞、張曼玉、周潤發、王祖賢等.
